Seer Interactive's tracking reveals ChatGPT ads jumped from zero to 7.7% of responses in just three days (July 7-9, 2026), appearing across 93% of tracked brand workspaces with 470 unique advertisers.
For AI marketers, three findings matter most: (1) only 2.2% of brands defend their own branded prompts, leaving competitors free to intercept comparison queries with no bidding war, (2) advertisers appear in the organic ChatGPT answer just 5% of the time, meaning your rival's ad can sit directly under ChatGPT's recommendation of your product, and (3) half the ads are contextually on-topic but 20% are spray-and-pray display tactics, with aggregators like BestMoney already claiming 16% of placements.
This changes the game: organic AI visibility (GEO) no longer guarantees the click when paid placements create a new intercept layer, and brands that don't claim their own prompts will watch competitors do it first.
